The Light that was Lost
A Mythic Journey through the Death of Baldr
We live in a time of great dissolution. The order we’ve known is crumbling rapidly. Families fracture. Bombs rend the sky. And the threat of chaos looms everywhere we look.
Of course, you know more is possible. That there is genuine wisdom, guidance, and hope for humanity—
But in the noise and chaos of the 24-hour news cycle, endless arguments on facebook, and war livestreamed on a daily basis, it’s hard to know where to look.
You are not wrong to think: “there must be a better way!” That surely there is true wisdom to be found. In times like these, people from all times and places have turned to the wisdom of myth.
The Death of Baldr is a myth about endings. About the end that is fated. About the gods’ ill-fated attempt to avert it. It is about the attempt to assert order and its inevitable breakdown. It’s about hubris and vengeance and betrayal and grief. It is, essentially, about us.
This story comes from a culture in many ways like our own: a culture where men are in charge and conflict is the way of life.
It is a story of a time like our own, a time of great endings where our very attempts to avert disaster seem only to spur it on.
Together, we will enter this myth, hand ourselves over to its ancient, breathing wisdom. In so doing, we will connect ourselves with the wisdom of those who came before us. Remembering that the crisis of our current time is not ours alone. This time has been foretold for centuries. As has the path through it.
Though we enter this myth not as an attempt to seek answers, to assert control over the uncontrollable. Indeed, this would be precisely what this story warns against.
Rather, we surrender to be changed by all that we cannot change.
So we might find peace in the process.
For 8 weeks, we surrender ourselves to grieve, to be changed by a story centuries old. As we journey with Baldr, with Frigg, with Loki; what wisdom might emerge?
